Feeling Better!

I was supposed to go rafting with some friends this weekend in Wisconsin. Caleb was feeling better (hurray!), so I packed my bags, the kids bags, their bikes, and drove them to Grandma's house. I gave my mom the info about Caleb's antibiotics and then I gave kisses goodbye. First Caleb, then Kendall. Kendall, who was acting totally fine was BURNING up! I just can't catch a break from this. So, I took her temperature which was 102. I then called my friends and husband to let them know that I couldn't go. Caleb burst into tears because he was so excited to spend the weekend with his grandparents. So, my mom, being a wonderful Grandma, told him he could stay and spend the day with her and spend the night. This was his first real overnight at Grandma's house. He was thrilled!

I spent the day with Kendall. She didn't feel well until late afternoon. Then she perked up. Life with one child is so much easier I have to say. She helped me vacuum my car, clean the basement, and dust the living room. We also spent about an hour reading books. It was great!

When she woke up this morning she was acting fine and told me she felt much better. Since she was fever free, and I had cabin fever after being stuck in the house with sick kids all week, we decided to go with my parents and Caleb to Riverfest. It is a local festival. We had a great time!
The kids got to go on three rides each. They were absolutely thrilled. Here is Caleb on the merry-go-round.
Kendall loved this ride. She was on a helicopter and it spun around a track in circles. Lots of fun for a brave three year old.
My brother Micah also decided to join us. It was great to see him.

After the festival, we headed back home. The kids must have really missed each other. They played nicely together in Caleb's room for almost two hours straight with no tattling! Wow! Since they were being great, I treated them to a movie. We went and saw Kung Fu Panda 2. It was surprisingly entertaining. Unfortunately, Kendall started to not feel well during the movie. When we got back home, I took her temperature and her fever was back. She was also very sleepy. So, I gave her some medicine and she went to bed early. This gave me some one-on-one time with Caleb which was nice. I hope she feels better tomorrow!

To the Doctors We Go!

Caleb woke up this morning with his temp still at 102. So, we went to the doctors. I usually love our doctor's office and feel like they give great advice, but I have to admit that I don't totally agree today. Our doctor determined that Caleb has a sinus infection and bronchitis. I would agree that he is congested and does have a bad cough, but she totally dismissed his tummy issues. I have a 5 year old who has eaten 2 waffles, 2 apple sauce cups, and a fruit and yogurt parfait from McDonald's since Monday. He also threw up once yesterday and has been in tears because his tummy hurts so much. So, call me crazy, but perhaps he has two things going on at once? Caleb was prescribed antibiotics and we will give that a try. If he still has a fever on Saturday I need to take him back in.

This is terrible timing actually, because my husband and I are supposed to do a weekend getaway and go rafting. I am not calling it off until tomorrow morning when we are supposed to leave. Here is to hoping that he makes a huge recovery tonight!

Another Sick Day

Poor Caleb! He is still sick today. He was supposed to move up in his gymnastics class today, and he missed the first class. He spent another day on the couch. He woke up with a fever of 102 and threw up this morning. I gave him anti-nausea medicine that was prescribed to him the last time he had the stomach flu because he became dehydrated. So, that did help him feel a bit better. What a sad way to start the summer!

My mom came to the rescue for Kendall. Kendall had her first gymnastics class today. So, she came and brought Kendall to gymnastics. She then did a few errands and took Kendall out for brunch. Kendall had a great time with Grandma! They like to share blueberry pancakes together. My mom and Kendall also stopped by Caleb's school to pick up his things. Kendall will be going to school there next year and is very excited!

Sick Boy

Unfortunately I called it. Caleb woke up with a slight fever that only went up as the day progressed. He complained that his tummy hurt, but it didn't go beyond that. He didn't eat anything today and just laid around the house. When my sitter suggested that the kids go upstairs and play with toys, he chose to lay down on the bed instead. Poor boy! I feel bad for Caleb because he missed his last day of preschool. How sad is that? He has his new gymnastics class tomorrow. I hope he perks up by morning!

Sleepy Boy

Caleb was in a great mood when I got home from work today. He was very excited to tell me that he gets to take a stuffed bear to school tomorrow. I did verify this information with my mom, who subs in his classroom. The last time Caleb took a stuffed teddy to school it was stuck down his pants. No one found it until he had been to school for over an hour. So, he was worried that I wouldn't believe him.

I needed to run and do a few errands. Of course Caleb wanted to join me. We first went to Marshall's to return a pair of shoes that didn't fit him. He told me he was sleepy and wanted to ride in the cart. I showed him the cart and pointed out how small it was. Caleb insisted so in he went. He fell asleep within a minute of being in the cart. He looked so uncomfy! We went to the grocery store next and he fell asleep in that cart as well. It made for some easy shopping for me. I really hope that he isn't getting sick!

That nap of course perked him right up. He wasn't tired at all at bedtime. Neither was Kendall for that matter. When I announced that it was time to get ready for bed, Kendall responded that she wasn't ready and was busy. She busy spinning in circles. I responded by letting her know that her bedtime story was about to be taken away and she hurried upstairs. Caleb is such a go with the flow type of kid. He really doesn't say no to me. It is amazing how different Kendall is. She is a girl who knows what she wants and when she wants it.

After the Fun

I have been having so much fun with the kids in this warm weather, that it was time to take a day and get some things done! Caleb is totally a Mommy's boy and Kendall is a Daddy's girl. So, whenever we go are own ways, we each have a little one with us. I love going out and doing errands with Caleb. He is typically a good boy when we are one on one and we have a great time.

Today, we went to get presents for my parent helpers. This year I am at a fabulous school with lots of moms who want to get in and help. I had 14 helpers this year. That is pretty crazy! So, I wanted to do something to thank them, but I don't want to break the bank at the same time. I decided to get picture frames to put a class photo in for each of them. I will then include a nice thank you note.

We then went to get plants for our very neglected gardens. I let my 5 year old choose the flowers. I know, call me crazy, but they are annuals and will be replaced next year. Plus, I figure you really can't go terribly wrong with flowers. They would not be a combination that I would typically choose, but it will do. I also let him lay out where we planted the flowers. He was excited to help. We planted them together and he watered the flower beds and refilled our small pond with water. It looks like summer now!

My husband and Kendall spent the day making a new kitchen table. A previous sitter spilled glue on our old table. When Terry went to refinish it, we discovered that our 100% wood table was made of particle board with a laminate top. Technically, wood, but not refinishable. So, rather than by a new table, Terry made a new top and sides, using the old legs. It is looking terrific!
